Most people have probably experienced some version of this.

You notice someone across a room, or at a bar, or somewhere ordinary. At first it might just be that they’re attractive or there’s something interesting about them. Then, once your attention is caught, you start noticing the smaller things.

The way she stands. The way she moves. The way she flips her hair away from her face every few minutes while she’s talking. The way she smiles. Little mannerisms that probably wouldn’t mean anything to anyone else, but suddenly you’re paying attention to all of them.

Sometimes that feeling passes. You notice someone, enjoy the moment, and move on.

Head-On With You is about the other possibility.

This guy is already past simple curiosity. The interest has built into something much stronger. In his mind, this is no longer just a passing attraction. He has reached the point where he knows he wants to be with her.

His thinking is basically: we need to be together, I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen, and I’m not giving up easily.

That’s where the title comes from. It isn’t a cautious song. He isn’t circling around the feeling or pretending it isn’t there. He is moving straight toward what he wants.

By the time the song settles in, they are together. At least in his mind, that outcome has already become fixed and certain.

That feeling of attraction turning into determination is what drives the song. It starts with noticing the little things and ends with someone who is completely convinced he has found the person he wants.

That is the story behind Head-On With You.
